The first USS Saipan (CVL-48/AVT-6/CC-3) was a light aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, the lead ship of her class of carrier. She was later selected for conversion into a command ship in 1963–1964, but instead of becoming a command ship she was converted to the Major Communications Relay Ship Arlington (AGMR-2) in 1965.

El USS Saipan (CVL-48) fue un portaaviones ligero de la Armada de los Estados Unidos, y dio nombre a su clase. Más tarde fue reclasificado como buque de mando en 1963-1964, convirtiéndose en Major Communications Relay Ship Arlington (AGMR-2) en el año 1965.El USS Saipan fue puesto en grada el 10 de julio de 1944 por la Nueva York Shipbuilding Corporation, Camden, Nueva Jersey, y botado el 8 de julio de 1945, siendo amadrinado por Harriet McCormack Joyce esposa de John W. McCormack, y entró en servicio el 14 de julio de 1946, siendo su primer Comandante el Capitán de Navío John G. Crommelin.[1]

La USS Saipan (CVL-48) è stata una portaerei leggera appartenente alla Classe Saipan che ha servito la Marina degli Stati Uniti.[1] In seguito venne riconvertita con il nome di Arlington (AGMR-2) della Major Relay Ship nel 1965.
