Si tratta della terza compagnia aerea privata del Vietnam, dopo la Indochina Airlines (fallita nel 2009) e la Air Mekong, cui è stata revocata la licenza nel 2015[1].

La flotta della VietJet Air era inizialmente composta da quattro Airbus A320 dotati di novanta posti fra classe economica e business, affittati dalla statunitense SkyWest Leasing. Attualmente conta 45 aerei (Airbus a A320 ed Airbus A321[2][3][4]
