In collaborazione con Charles Renard, Arthur Constantin Krebs ha pilotato il primo motore interamente controllabile su un tragitto di 8 km, percorso in 23 minuti. Si trattò del primo volo su circuito chiuso del mondo e il velivolo atterrò al suo punto di partenza.[4]
Su sette voli effettuati tra il 1884 e il 1885,[5] La France è tornato al punto di partenza cinque volte.
Specifiche tecniche
Lungo 52 metri per un volume di 1.864 m³, aveva propulsione elettrica[6] e portava una batteria di 435 kg[7].
L'hangar Y
L'hangar, chiamato Y alla sua costruzione nel 1879 è sul sito di Chalais Meudon nella regione di Parigi[8]. È uno dei pochi hangar per dirigibili rimasti in Europa

The La France was a French Army non-rigid airship launched by Charles Renard and Arthur Constantin Krebs on August 9, 1884. Collaborating with Charles Renard, Arthur Constantin Krebs piloted the first fully controlled free-flight with the La France. The 170-foot (52 m) long, 66,000-cubic-foot (1,900 m3) airship, electric-powered with a 435 kg (959 lb) zinc-chlorine flow battery[1] completed a flight that covered 8 km (5.0 mi) in 23 minutes.[2] It was the first full round trip flight[3] with a landing on the starting point.
