The airport is just inland from the shore of the Río de la Plata estuary, 6 kilometres (4 mi) east of Colonia. Southeast approach and departure are over the water.
The Colonia non-directional beacon (Ident: COL) is located on the field. The La Plata VOR-DME (Ident: PTA) is located 31.8 nautical miles (59 km) south of the airport.[4][5]
